I did something silly today. I was recently out of town for a few days on a press trip, and now that I’m back on the office I have to write stories on the events that took place. I looked over my notes last night, and came up with a list of four story ideas that I could write on. Since the event I was at focused on economic issues and I’m not part of the econ team, I sent my list to two editors: the econ editor and the general news editor (my boss). I basically said, in one email addressed to the both of them, that hey, these are my ideas, I can write on one of these topics today, one for the weekend edition and the other two some other time next week. Let me know what you guys want me to do.
Silly me — as if two Turkish men and their big manly egos are going to consult with one another before writing me back! I got an email from my boss almost immediately, and about 20 minutes later got an email from the econ head — and of course the two emails gave me two completely different priority lists for the stories. It got worked out eventually, but the situation still tickled me. I should have known better!
